Enniscorthy 13 March, 2011. Sonru today launched two short animations to explain the automated video interviewing process. The animations, which were produced by Igloo Animations, consist of an 'Overview of automated video interviewing' and a more specific 'How does it work?' and are targeted at HR directors, recruiters and hiring managers.

Seth Godin, the godfather of permission marketing, has written over a dozen books that have been translated into more than thirty languages. According to his bio, he writes about the post-industrial revolution, the way ideas spread, marketing, quitting, leadership and most of all, changing everything. Seth is something of a hero in Sonru and most of us subscribe to his daily RSS feed. Seth Godin on Unskilled Labour

The Wall Street Journal published an article earlier in the week entitled 'Jobs Open, but Filling Them Slows Down' about recruiters' problems finding candidates for skilled positions and/or the prolonged hiring process. Then today I read with interest in Business & Leadership another article along the same lines entitled 'Recruitment difficulties facing Irish companies'. What's going on? Surely there's an abundance of ready talent waiting in the wings to apply to relevant jobs.

Hiring in a Recession - Slow and Costly but it doesn’t have to be so

City & Guilds - the UK's leading vocational education organisation and largest supplier of Apprenticeship qualifications, launched a report 'Building Business Through Apprenticeships' earlier this month and it makes for very interesting reading. The findings are based on the responses of over 500 employers surveyed across the UK. Two-thirds of employers (66 per cent) believe Apprenticeships are vital to ensure that the UK can compete in the changing global economy but despite this, currently there are only eleven Apprenticeship places for every 1000 employees in the UK .

Last week, Google announced they had received 75,000 applications for their current hiring spree of 6,000 new jobs worldwide. According to a blog post written by Alan Eustace, senior vice president of engineering and research at Google, they're "looking for top talent, we’ll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science: like building a Web-based operating system from scratch, instantly searching an index of more than 100 million gigabytes and even developing cars that drive themselves".

Google receives 75,000 job applications in one week

Facebook is hiring but they're not just listing vacancies and inviting applications. Oh no, they've made a snazzy online video with contributions from their staff talking about Facebook's vision for the future. It's a call to action to make a contribution no matter what discipline you're from. Looking through their careers pages, there are plenty of jobs in the Dublin office too.

‘Make an Impact. Work at Facebook’ - online video to promote jobs/careers at Facebook

The CIPD in the UK's Annual HR Conference and Exhibition which takes place over three days kicked off yesterday in Manchester. Jackie Orme, Chief Executive, told delegates in her opening address that changes to CIPD services, designed to strengthen support for members in their jobs, will be introduced early in 2011.
