Seth Godin, the godfather of permission marketing, has written over a dozen books that have been translated into more than thirty languages. According to his bio, he writes about the post-industrial revolution, the way ideas spread, marketing, quitting, leadership and most of all, changing everything. Seth is something of a hero in Sonru and most of us subscribe to his daily RSS feed. Today he wrote about skilled and unskilled labor, it's short and sweet like all his musings but it's reproduced below, interesting food for thought from Seth as always.

The Wall Street Journal published an article earlier in the week entitled 'Jobs Open, but Filling Them Slows Down' about recruiters' problems finding candidates for skilled positions and/or the prolonged hiring process. Then today I read with interest in Business & Leadership another article along the same lines entitled 'Recruitment difficulties facing Irish companies'. What's going on? Surely there's an abundance of ready talent waiting in the wings to apply to relevant jobs.

City & Guilds - the UK's leading vocational education organisation and largest supplier of Apprenticeship qualifications, launched a report 'Building Business Through Apprenticeships' earlier this month and it makes for very interesting reading. The findings are based on the responses of over 500 employers surveyed across the UK. Facebook is hiring but they're not just listing vacancies and inviting applications. Oh no, they've made a snazzy online video with contributions from their staff talking about Facebook's vision for the future. It's a call to action to make a contribution no matter what discipline you're from. Looking through their careers pages, there are plenty of jobs in the Dublin office too.

As video continues to join the mainstream in the recruitment process, the latest addition to the array of solutions available to today's jobseeker may just prove a little too out of reach. The Augmented Reality CV is the brainchild of CWJobs and David Wood, the co-founder of Symbian. An Augmented Reality CV attempts to bring a traditional CV to life by using audio and visual technology and they're hoping it will be the CV of the future.
