Sonru can be used right throughout the LCA Vocational Preparation and guidance programme. Check out the career guidance-investigation and interview preparation-work experience section to find out how Sonru can permeate the first 4 modules of this programme.
Sonru can be used within the enterprise modules in the following ways.
Video diary Students can keep an online video diary their experiences during the lifecycle of the enterprise.
Business Plan interview Student examination on business plan can be completed via online interview. Business teachers, local business people and local entrepreneurs can help the teacher create the interview and/or be added as viewers.
Sonru is a very relevant and innovative digital communication device. Online video is becoming an integral part of the unfolding digital economy and is a technology that the student will encounter once finished his/her post primary education. Using Sonru the teacher can examine the students’ existing internet and ICT knowledge in the form of online video examinations. By doing so the teacher will also provide the student with a valuable education in using automated online video technology as well as fulfilling the following internet module learning objectives:
Access the Sonru website and add to the favourites/bookmark list.
Send, receive and print email messages (students’ user details will be emailed to their account).
Identify the main components of an email address.
In addition the student will also learn the following ICT skills.
Identify and gain knowledge about the following input devices; keyboard, webcam and microphone/headset.
Learn how to set up and use the following input device; webcam and microphone/headset.
Use these input devices to upload video files onto the internet to be viewed at any time in a safe and secure environment.
Within this subject Sonru is a particularly relevant means of empowering the student to communicate better orally and allow the teacher to incorporate fun and interesting methodologies to their teachings.
Within Module 2 the student will undertake interview preparation and interviews, the following link will explain how Sonru can be used to carry out interviews and interview preparation.
This subject also requires the class to carry out interviews and/or vox pops on members of the outside community. This is much more manageable if the teacher requests the individuals involved answer the questions online using Sonru. Sonru allows the individuals to complete the interview at their own convenience while the teacher can show the class the online video file at any time.
In addition to the above the teacher can use Sonru to assist in meeting many other objectives of this subject. The teacher can allocate online video recording time to the student to monitor and examine the students’ oral ability and knowledge in many ways. Below are some examples:
Record the student reading literary texts or short stories in different contexts and styles of presenting.
Record the student reciting poetry which can be the students own work, (perhaps a competition for best poem could be created by the teacher.)
Examine a student’s understanding of the theory covered in the subject like punctuation and other terms and concepts e.g. theme, tone, genre etc.
Examine the student’s ability to speak to different people in different contexts and hypothetical scenarios. .
The student can present an oral account of a personal experience on video file.
Student online video diary reports can be created.
Students can record personal reviews of film, radio, television or theatre shows that the teacher requested the students watch.
Schools participating in Sonru for Schools will receive the necessary equipment to create a multimedia station at which students can carry out some of the practical requirements of this course. Below are two examples of how Sonru can be used in this subject:
Retailing and Selling Interview the student with challenging questions that would be encountered in a selling situation.
Retailing and the Consumer Interview the student with challenging questions that would be encountered when dealing with an irate customer.
Once the teacher has reviewed he/she can email feedback to the student’s account from his/her Sonru account.
