Cargill use asynchronous video interview for volume recruitment primarily for its graduate, university placement and traineeship roles.

The rationale for adopting video interviewing was to improve the accuracy of their selection. Conversion rates from the Assessment Centres were typically low and often necessitated running additional events which impacted the business on an operational level.

Key Findings

  • Better Candidate Selection
  • Time Savings
  • Employer Brand

Some of the Highlights

Implementing Video Interviewing has enabled Cargill to:

  • Replace phone interviews
  • Remove the need for Hiring Managers to travel to campuses to conduct on-site interviews
  • Reduce the number of Assessment Centres and candidate interviews

“Our conversion rate wasn’t very strong and we were having to run additional Assessment Centres. This means taking staff out of the business for the day which can have an impact on our production, which in turn impacts our customers, all these knock–on effects. With Sonru, we have been able to reduce the number of candidates we meet thus reducing our hiring managers’ downtime from their operational work.” – Cara Walker, Talent Acquisition Specialist HR Shared Services, Cargill

Walker maintains that “the telephone interviews were not finding the soft skills. Video Interviewing gave us another insight –  how they react and engage with the camera. It’s quite subtle but certainly effective for assessing soft skills.”

With a 33% reduction in interview time (compared to phone interviews) not to mention allowing time for scheduling and perhaps 10% no-shows, video interviewing has definitely resulted in time savings for Cargill.

Walker maintains that video interviewing has a positive impact on its employer brand in terms of the branding capabilities of the Sonru account and the convenience it offers to candidates to choose when and where they complete their interviews.

  • 95% satisfaction with the candidate experience, 5% neutral
  • 100% would complete a video interview again
  • 95% completed interview from home

“It was an innovative way of doing an interview which I enjoyed.”

“Convenient, as it can be done at any time.”

“Very convenient especially for people outside of England.”

– Cargill Candidates

“We now have better candidate selection. We can assess if they are going to be a good cultural fit aside from their skills and education. It [Video Interviewing] is more realistic, like a face to face interview.”
“I love that we get to package up Cargill and brand ourselves professionally. With the information we provide along with our videos, Sonru allows us to really sell ourselves. The Cargill account looks really smart on the platform and that gets candidate buy-in.”
